Miss Sheppard

Term 2

In Year 5, we have certainly explored our talents over the course of Term 2. We have worked in collaboration with Bristol Plays Music and received expert Ukulele tuition. During our weekly lessons, we have grown in confidence and our competence with the different chords on the Ukulele has been significant. We understand the importance of warming up before playing an instrument and keeping to the rhythm and pulse of the music. We were extremely excited to perform to the Year 3 pupils in the school. The videos show how far we have come and the confidence we now have with this instrument. We would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to Sadie from Bristol Plays Music for all the effort she has put into our learning.

In Term 2, we also took part in an ‘Aspirational Art Day’ with artist Luke Acceron. The theme of the day was our aspirations for the future. Pupils took part in collaborative workshops with this artist and the finished pieces of work will be on display in the school. In class, we painted pebbles, explored emotion and mood in art and created portraits of our future selves. We also wrote messages from the future, containing our hopes and dreams. Our ‘Wish Trees’ can be seen in the classrooms and they have our wishes for the future. It was lovely to invite parents into the classrooms and share our artwork in a gallery time.

If you would like to view the video of year 5, then please ask the class teacher.
Term 1

In Year 5, we have studied Michael Murpurgo’s ‘Beowulf’ and Neil Gaiman’s ‘Odd and the Frost Giants’. These texts have been closely linked to our Anglo-Saxon and Vikings topic and have inspired our work across the curriculum. We have loved reading each passage and our enthusiasm and passion for the books is clearly evident in our writing. Come and read our ‘Newspaper Articles’ and ‘Diaries’, although we must warn you that they are gruesome and gory. We are also in the process of writing our own quests based on the heroic journeys of Beowulf and Odd. Watch this space for our exciting, creative and imaginative stories!
