We have loved carrying on with our History based topic, this term learning all about Sir Francis Drake, the Spanish Armada, The Plague and the Great Fire of London! In Art, we used junk materials to build our own 3D Tudor houses!
In Maths we have been learning all about measures! We enjoyed using non-standardised units and standardised units to measure capacity. We got a bit wet! We have also enjoyed the early Spring sunshine to get outside and practise measuring length.
We also have a great time celebrating World Book Day! Everyone had a lot of fun dressing up as a character from a book and we even had a zoom with the author Catherine Rayner.
We have fully immersed ourselves in our new Topic all about the Tudors and have been really enjoying learning all about Henry Tudor, Henry VIII and his six wives. We made some ‘Quiz Cubes’ which we were able to take home to show our families what we had learned so far (and also test them on their Tudor knowledge!)
In Art we have been practising our portrait skills. Using all we had learnt about position and proportion of facial features, we then had a go at drawing a portrait of a famous Tudor.
In English, we have been writing stories and information texts on the Tudors, and most recently we wrote a leaflet all about Hampton Court Palace, encouraging tourists to go and visit.
In 2VT we have been having lots of fun with our India topic so far!
In Geography, we have been finding out about the climate, the different landscapes and their habitats and animals. We compared all of this learning to where we live. We loved learning all about red pandas and we were super concerned about the fact they are endangered due to their habitats being cut down. We wrote amazing newspaper reports to show all we had learned!
In Science, we have been learning about different materials and their properties. We looked at how fabrics are traditionally dyed in India, and we conducted an experiment using different types of natural dyes, such as pomegranates, turmeric, onions, strawberries and bark. We then compared each fabric to see which natural dye worked the best and tried to explain the results.
In Art, we have been looking at Indian Rangoli patterns. We had a go at designing our own!
In 2VT, we have been continuing our topic on India.
To start the term, we celebrated Diwali by having our own Diwali Day. We dressed up, cooked a curry, tried some Bollywood dancing, created Rangoli Art and then finished the day with a feast, enjoying the delicious curry we had made cooked!
In Art, we have also made our own Diva lamps using Clay – we were really good at squashing and squeezing! Then we decorated them with beautiful Rangoli inspired patterns. We have also done some amazing line drawings, focusing on size and shape. We followed instructions to draw a Taj Mahal and also a Peacock. We are so proud of our Artwork!
