As part of our Rivers learning, 4JW have tried out lots of different sketching techniques and then looked carefully at different river creatures. We have sketched them from different angles so that we could use these to help us with some 2D and 3D clay sculptures – we hope you like our sketches and finished pieces. (Sadly, we did not get around to painting them.)
In DT this term, after learning about food hygiene and what a Balanced Diet looks like, we carried out some food tasting of some different food types that most of us hadn’t tried before. Some of us were really brave and tried new foods like coriander, beetroot and feta cheese, some of us found some new foods that we liked – some didn’t!
We had planned to cook and create “Rainbow Couscous” at the end of term – maybe some of you can make this at home using store cupboard ingredients.
In term 2, 4HM looked at recreating African style art using sunsets and silhouettes. We explored colour using a variety of paints and created new colours and shades by mixing. We used images of the African Sahara to inspire us in our own artwork.
These are just some of the books we have been reading this term as we try to foster a love of reading among the class. !. During literacy lessons, we have been using ‘The Story of Tutankhamun’ by Patricia Cleveland-Peck as the focus for our writing this term. ‘The Twits’ by Roald Dahl has given the children new reading skills such as asking questions to deepen their understanding of a text. Finally, everyone in class has chosen a reading book from the reading corner and our daily reading session is now a favourite part of the day.
