Termly Knowledge Organisers

What are knowledge organisers?

Knowledge organisers are a summary of the key facts and essential knowledge that pupils need about a unit of work or a curriculum subject. They are designed to focus the minds of the pupils so they have a secure knowledge base about the topics studied.

Why use knowledge organisers?

  1. They set out expectations of what pupils should learn about a topic and to clarify their thinking around what is important. They also give children the ‘bigger picture’ of a topic. Some topics can be complicated, so having the essential knowledge, clear diagrams, explanations and key terms on one document is really helpful.
  2. Pupils will review, revise and quiz themselves using their knowledge organisers.
  3. Knowledge organisers are a really clear and easy to understand way for parents to be aware of what their children are learning at school and how to support them with their knowledge.
  4. Pupils could come to a lesson already having some understanding of the key vocabulary or key facts needed to be successful for that lesson.
  5. Knowledge organisers can increase retention of facts. Those pupils who know more about a topic learn more about a topic.
