This term our topic is ‘How do Oliver’s vegetables grow?’
We have created some beautiful ‘Paul Cezanne’ style still life pictures of vegetables using charcoal, paints and oil pastels.
We have also planted peas and cress and looked closely at how conditions influence the way things grow.
In maths, we have been learning to count in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s.
In computing, we having been learning how to use the keys to type.
We have been learning about Forces. We found out that a force can speed an object up, slow it down, change its shape and change its direction. We did an assembly to teach our grown-ups facts about forces.
In maths, we have been learning about time, position and measures.
We enjoyed celebrating World Book Day.
During Music this term, we have been focussing on the Rock genre. Each lesson has begun with listening and appraising a different Rock song including Queen, Status Quo and Deep Purple. We have played lots of games to help find the pulse of a song, as well as hear how pitch changes.
We then learnt how to sing our own Rock song ‘I Wanna Play in a Band’, and play the instrumental sections on our own Chime Bars. We even then began to improvise with our own instruments to accompany certain sections of the song. We then performed it as a whole class, where we sang, played and improvised. We had so much fun!
We started this term with a Victorian day! We dressed up as Victorian children and took part in Victorian activities. It was very fun. Informative and excited us about our term on Victorian times.
We have been working on place value, adding and subtracting using a variety of methods in maths.
In art, we created our own willow plates.
We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes, money and halving this term. We have been discussing the properties of shapes and sorting them into different groups. We have been making amounts using money and halving amounts by sharing between two.
In PE, we have been working on our ball skills, balance and coordination.
Our topic this term is African animals. We have been learning about Kenya, creating animal patterns and naming and grouping animals.
We have settled really well in 1SH. We are getting used to the new routines and subjects and are trying hard with all of our Year One work.
We started the year with an alien crashing on our school grounds. We found it very exciting! It left us the story of Beegu, which has given us many amazing things to write about.
We have also had lots of fun in Mathematics using Numicon.
